Let’s face it – New Jersey is not renowned for servicing the special needs population. When comparing side-by-side with New York and its amazing supports, New Jersey families often feel that they got the worse end of the deal.
One thing that is up for grabs in New Jersey is ABA services. No, it’s not respite hours or camp funding, but grab it – it’s a great thing!
Read on to learn the basics about ABA services in NJ, and see if it’s something your child can benefit from.
- Leah is a precocious 8-year-old girl with behavioral challenges. She was doing well in her non-Jewish school, but her parents weren’t happy that their bright daughter wasn’t receiving a Jewish education. Ezreinu helped Leah’s family explore several frum programs that could accommodate her needs so that she could receive the best of both worlds.
- The M. family was deep in the middle of unpacking and settling into their new home in Lakewood, NJ. Their special needs toddler, Shua, had been all set up with services back in NY. With their sudden move to NJ, Shua’s family needed to begin the process all over from scratch. Ezreinu provided them with basic information about NJ services and gave them contact information for local helpful organizations.
- Raizy is a loveable 10-year-old girl with a charming smile, but she cannot communicate due to her severe ASD. She tends to suddenly run off without warning, so she needs to be supervised at all times. Yom tov with Raizy is always challenging, but this year, Ezreinu sent a Holding Hands team member to take Raizy out for a full day! Raizy’s family enjoyed a happy, relaxed yom tov, knowing that their precious child was in capable hands.
- Gavriel is a sweet middle-aged guy with developmental delays. His parents were getting on in their years, and they worried about how Gavriel’s finances would be managed when they would no longer be able to do it for him. Ezreinu put them in contact with a legal financial adviser who would help them make a trust fund to tide Gavriel over in the future.
